ǿմý Magazine Professor Tom Knecht to Coach the Golf Teams
Tom Knecht, ǿմý professor of political science, will coach the men’s and women’s golf teams, which begin competing in fall 2019.
“Coach Knecht is a valued member of the ǿմý community and a beloved professor,” said Dave Odell, ǿմý’s athletic director. “He is also a huge supporter of ǿմý athletics and quite a golfer.”
“Starting new athletic programs is never easy,” Knecht said. “But I can’t imagine stepping into a better situation. We have an amazing college and perfect weather—and we’ll play on some of the best courses in the country.”
Knecht earned his doctorate at UC Santa Barbara, and he has taught courses in American government, international politics and research methods at ǿմý for the past decade. His current research examines the politics of sports. He will continue to teach at ǿմý while coaching. Knecht graduated from Stanford University, where he belonged to the Cardinal football team.
